Day 8 : Breaking thru the ice

Today is a sad day. My grandmother, Marianne, passed away at 99. That is a long life well-lived.

As I travel at the other end of world we think of her, deeply. We should be reminded to live each day at its fullest, be surrounded by people who matters, and no time should be wasted. Life is like the thick icepack maybe, it's not always easy to go thru, but if you try hard, the journey is unbelievable. Bon voyage...


Millerand Island

Today we could not get on shore, so we spend the morning on a zodiac exploration, under a surreal gray light, the complete silence of the floating icebergs and freezing air. Today, even the penguins seem to be cold. It is a very contemplative experience.








Breaking thru the ice

We navigate south towards Charcot Island which should be one more highlight of our trip. We are told the ice will get thicker and thicker in the evening and overnight. Rarely, we can hear some crushing sounds as the boat makes its way thru, but it is surprisingly very silent and smooth. One more life lesson...
